Marianna Lucafò ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Nanotecnologie presso l'Università di Trieste nel 2013. Dal 2013 al 2018 ha lavorato nel Laboratorio di Farmacogenetica, Dipartimento di Scienze mediche chirurgiche e della salute (Trieste, Italia) con funzioni di riferimento per tutte le applicazioni in ambito cellulare e molecolare. Nel 2017 è stata ospite presso l’Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE) di Belgrado (Serbia) nel gruppo della prof.ssa Sonja Pavlovic svolgendo studi sul ruolo del long non-coding RNA GAS5 nella risposta al trattamento con glucocorticoidi in pazienti affetti da malattie infiammatorie croniche intestinali (MICI). Dal 2019 lavora presso l'IRCCS Burlo Garofolo e la sua attività di ricerca si concentra sull'identificazione di marcatori utili per la personalizzazione della terapia in pazienti pediatrici affetti da malattie infiammatorie e autoimmuni.
È coautrice di oltre 56 articoli originali pubblicati su riviste peer-reviewed e attualmente il suo H-index è 14.
Gli attuali argomenti di ricerca includono: 1) l’uso di modelli cellulari 2D e 3D paziente-specifico per la medicina personalizzata; 2) farmacogenetica e farmacoepigenetica dei glucocorticoidi, tiopurine e metotressato nell’ambito di malattie pediatriche come le MICI, sindrome nefrosica idiopatica, artrite idiopatica giovanile; 3) monitoraggio terapeutico di agenti anti-TNF nei pazienti pediatrici affetti da MICI.
Responsabile del progetto di ricerca in corso “Identification of novel therapeutic targets in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease by proteomic analysis on intestinal patient-derived organoids” (EPIC-XS 0000169).
E’ membro della Società Italiana di Farmacologia (SIF), della European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO), della American Society for Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics e della Pharmacogenomics global research network (PGRN).
Marianna Lucafò received her Nanotechnology Ph.D. from the University of Trieste in 2013. She worked in the Pharmacogenomic Lab at the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Health Sciences of the University of Trieste (Trieste, Italy) with reference functions for all applications in the cellular and molecular field (2013 - 2018). She was research fellow at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE) in Belgrade (Serbia) in 2017, in the group of prof. Sonja Pavlovic carrying out studies on the role of the non-coding RNA GAS5 as marker of glucocorticoid response in patient with inflammatory bowel diseases. Since 2019, she has been working at IRCCS Burlo Garofolo. Her current research is focused on the identification of molecular determinants useful to provide individualized treatment in pediatric patients with inflammatory and autoimmune disorders.
She is the co-author of more than 56 original papers published in peer-reviewed journals, and currently, her H-index is 14.
Current topics of research include: 1) the use of patient-specific 2D and 3D cellular models for personalized medicine; 2) pharmacogenetics and pharmacoepigenetics of glucocorticoids, thiopurines and methotrexate in the context of pediatric diseases such as IBD, idiopathic nephrotic syndrome, juvenile idiopathic arthritis; 3) therapeutic monitoring of anti-TNF agents in pediatric patients with IBD.
